Battle other players and win big by playing Axie Infinity

With video games outgrowing their simple entertainment purpose and becoming a well-known art form, plenty of developers saw its great potential to be a source of income.  This was the realization that Trung Nguyen, Aleksandr Larsen and Jeffrey Zirlin had when they created Axie Infinity in 2018.

The idea of creating a blockchain-based game came from the Ethereum blockchain’s CryptoKitties. However, the game’s lack in stability, long-term growth and sufficient incentives pushed them to create a cryptocurrency video game that would function efficiently.

What is Axie Infinity 

Axie Infinity is a turn-based mobile game inspired by well-known pet monster video games such as Nintendo’s Pokemon and Bandai’s Tamagochi. In the game, you will take care of three monsters, the Axies, and battle other monsters controlled either by AI or actual players. 

To play Axie Infinity, you will need an internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer. 

Gameplay

The game is played in a turn-based battle, meaning each of your and opponent’s Axies will take turns in attacking one another. This continues until all of your or the opponent’s Axies have been defeated. 

Smooth Love Potion (SLP)

Axie Infinity has its own currency called Smooth Love Potion that you can earn in the game by doing any or all of the three below: 

• Defeat opponents in the PVE Adventure Mode
• Defeat other players in PVP Arena matches
• Check-in daily for the calendar gifts.
  

Additionally, SLPs are cryptocurrencies that you can trade in the market. So once you earn them in the game, you can either hold them until their price appreciates or sell immediately to reap instant profits.

Axie creature overview

In the game, there are over 1 million Axies to be discovered and each of them falls into 9 different character types. 

These are:  

• Aquatic
• Beast
• Bird
• Bug
• Dawn
• Dusk
• Mech
• Plant 
• Reptile

When you have stronger Axies, you’ll have more chances of winning and earning lots of SLPs. Also, it’s important to know that these types have advantages and disadvantages against each other, so be sure to get one of each.

Aside from their types, each Axie is born with 6 body parts from over 500 available in the game. Due to this, each Axie has a Dominant, Recessive and Minor Recessive gene that they could pass to their offspring, with the percentage of each trait being 37.5%, 9.37% and 3.1% respectively. 

To get the best Axie, breed the best of your team so their offspring can receive their best traits. 

These traits affect the following stats to determine your Axie’s performance:

• Health – An Axie’s health is defined as the amount of damage an Axie can take before it gets defeated by an opponent.
• Speed – An Axie’s speed is its ability to be able to go first during the many rounds of the game.
• Skill – An Axie’s skill is the additional damage an Axie can inflict upon its target using multiple ability cards at once in a combination.
• Morale – An Axie’s morale is what empowers their critical strike capability for a higher chance to knock out their opponent.

To play Axie Infinity and play against other players, you will need to buy at least three Axies first. An Axie’s value ranges from ETH 0.018 (US$60) to ETH 450 (US$1.5 million).

As you can see, an Axie can be pricey. If you’re still building up to afford a set of three Axies, you can save up some money or work for a manager and be their scholar to be able to play (a more detailed description on this later).

Game modes

It’s in these modes that you can use your Axies against other Axies and earn SLP throughout the game. Should you play for longer times, you will be able to make the most out of your Axies and earn big.

Here are the two modes where you can do this:

• Adventure – In the Adventure mode of the game, you will be fighting against the many AI Axies. There’s a continuing map throughout the game that gets more challenging, yet rewarding as you progress. 
• Arena – When playing the game’s Arena mode, you will be set face-to-face against other real-life players.

How to make money from Axie Infinity 

As mentioned before, earning through Axie Infinity is done by winning Smooth Love Potions throughout the Adventure and Arena Modes. These SLPs can then be converted into your chosen currency or traded to other cryptocurrencies.

If you want to earn more, you can either become a Manager and get a Scholar to play for you or breed high-quality Axies and sell them on the game’s marketplace. 

Become a scholar

If you’ve found that the price of each Axie is not yet affordable to you, but want to play the game, you may find a manager who has Axies of their own. When you’ve found one, they will ask you to play on their behalf in exchange for a payment. 

The two of you can set up an agreement on how much you can get paid, how often you will play and much more. You may continue doing this until you’ve had your own money that allows you to buy your own Axies.

One of the best things about Axie Infinity is that it rewards the best players for their hard work. For instance, only the top 300 players in the network can receive Axie Infinity Shards or AXS tokens that grant exclusive rewards and abilities.
