American fast-food chain Burger King teams up with investment app Robinhood to give away Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin as prizes to customers who are members of the restaurant’s Royal Perks loyalty program. By spending US$5 on Burger King’s app, customers have a chance to win cryptocurrency based on the generated prize.
The promotion started on Monday, November 1 and will end on Sunday, November 21 or once all crypto prizes have been given. Tokens such as Dogecoin which consists of a total of 2 million (US$472,000), 20 Bitcoin (US$1.17 million) and 200 Ether (US$800,000) are 0included in the list of prizes.
Interested customers can claim free cryptocurrency by being a member of Burger King’s Royal Perks loyalty program. In addition to that, they also have to purchase at least US$5 through the Burger King app or on BK.com using ‘My Code’ which can be redeemed upon checkout.
Customers will receive an email containing the prize code that will be used to claim the free cryptocurrency using the Robinhood app. A Robinhood account is required to claim the prize for new users but existing users can use their original accounts.
Customers who want to purchase products in-store need to sign into their Royal Perks and select the restaurant they’re visiting to proceed to the ‘My Code’ option. A six-digit code will be presented to the cashier upon paying.
Burger King North America’s vice president of digital guest experiences, Maria Posada shared in a statement sent to USA Today that Burger King and Robinhood’s partnership is a ‘natural fit’ since they are offering crypto and food at the same time.
‘As a brand, we are always looking for ways to reward our most loyal guests with exclusive offers that are exciting, unique, and culturally relevant’, said Burger King in a statement. Adding ‘Cryptocurrency has been a hot topic of conversation recently, but we know it can be difficult to understand. That’s why we wanted to bring crypto to our guests in a way that was accessible and digestible (literally and figuratively) — through our food’.
On another note, Burger King’s cryptocurrency-related venture started when restaurants in Germany and Venezuela started accepting cryptocurrency as payment. A chain in Russia launched its own cryptocurrency called ‘WhopperCoin’.
