EPG announces the first NFT stamps of UAE banner

Last Sunday, November 28, postal operator of the UAE, Emirates Post Group (EPG), announced the upcoming release of the first non-fungible token (NFT) stamps in the entire region according to local newspaper, Gulf News. These stamps will be in commemoration of the United Arab Emirate’s (UAE) 50th National Day on December 2, 2021, the same day it will be accessible to the public.

EPG plans to release four unique NFT stamps aligned with the theme of the country’s Golden Jubilee. The first one is a unique version embellished with a gram of fine gold with the title ‘Golden Jubilee 2021’ on it.

As for the second stamp, it’s referred to as the ‘Spirit of the Union-1971,’ representing the establishment of the country and paying homage to its founding fathers. The third stamp is the ‘Year of the 50th-2021’, while the fourth one is the ‘Projects of the 50th- 2071’ as a way to show the UAE’s plans for the future.

The NFT stamps to be released on December 2, 2021, will have a digital version that is found on the blockchain and is linked to its physical counterpart. According to the Chief Executive Officer of EPG, Mohammed Alashram, this move is connected to the company’s vision to adapt more digital practices as read in a report by Gulf News. He added, ‘By introducing tradable NFT stamps, we are bridging the gap between traditional stamps and the world of digital cryptocurrency’.

In his interview with crypto news site Cointelegraph last Wednesday, December 1, Alashram shared the plans of EPG to release more digital stamps in the near future. He stated, ‘The adoption of the latest advancements in digital technology in our operations is also to address the technology-savvy generation who prefers digitally accessible services’.

Interested parties who wish to get these stamps will have to buy a physical card first before gaining access to its digital version. A QR code is found at the front part of the previously said card. Once it is scanned, the buyer can gain access to the digital collectable found on the blockchain and activate it. The stamp has a locked cryptographic NFC chip that can only be verified using a mobile device with an NFC reader.
