The National Football League (NFL) announced on Wednesday, February 2 that attendees of the Super Bowl LVI will receive a customised nonfungible token (NFT) ticket to commemorate the Super Bowl’s return to Los Angeles on February 13 after almost 30 years.

As per the announcement, NFL plans to use NFTs as a tool to engage and celebrate with their fans. The NFT ticket includes the section, row and seat of the attendee during the game day. It will feature the current Super Bowl LVI ticket artwork that was designed by an artist from Southern California.

Robert Gallo, senior vice president of NFL’s club business development said that they began offering virtual commemorative NFT tickets in November 2021. These NFT tickets are offered to fans for free during the regular season.

‘We witnessed great success with this one of a kind fan experience which provided the momentum to continue this program throughout the postseason and ultimately at Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles,’ he said.

As per Gallo, many fans are collecting virtual NFT tickets, especially during the season’s biggest game. He said that releasing NFT tickets will not just enhance the gameday experience but will also ‘evaluate the NFT space for future ticketing and event engagement opportunities.’

The NFT tickets can be found on the NFL’s official NFT website and are minted on the Polygon blockchain. The NFL’s NFT marketplace is powered by the global ticketing platform,  Ticketmaster. The NFL will continue to prepare another collection of limited edition NFTs to commemorate the Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles.

On Wednesday, February 2, the NFL released the club-specific Super Bowl LVI NFT tickets for the two participating teams, the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Later this month, the final NFT of the Super Bowl LVI will be released featuring the winning team. A total of 7 additional historic commemorative NFTs will be available for purchase starting from February 6 to February 13.

Moreover, in mid-January, the club already distributed over 250,000 free NFTs while additional NFTs were also made available for purchase. Gallo stated in his interview with Cointelegraph that the goal behind this launch was to create a more innovative and unique way to commemorate the gameday experience.
